Sarah "Sally" Strickler, 1797-1889 wife of Jacob Bushong, 1790-1873.
A noted Buahong  The Bushong family and farm on the New Market Battlefield. The battle, began May 15, 1864 and eventually encompassed the Bushong home. During the battle the Virginia Military Institute's cadets were famously called to fight. They bravely served taking several casualties for the lost cause.

The Bushong home in New Market, in around 1880. Sally is standing in the front on a platform. To the right is the photographer's wagon. The first part of the name of the photography company is not quite readable, but rest of it is "View and Copy House".

  • On the left, the Bushong home on the New Market Battlefield, in Virginia. This is the same photo as above, only it's the full uncropped image. Notice the cropped photo eliminates four people, the two children in the field, the younger of which is Sally's granddaughter, Martha Bushong (Good). Also a man on horse, and a man standing.
  • The photo on the right is of the back of the house, taken in 1912.

The Bushong home on the New Market, Virginia battleground. Taken same day as the photograph above, in about 1880. Sitting on the fence, is probably Jacob and Sally's son, Anderson with his horse, George. For more, see Anderson's photo page.

A closer scan of the original photo above, shows Sallie and some family. Left to right, back row, Jacob Bushong, Elizabeth Bushong, Sarah "Sallie" Strickler Bushong. In front William Bushong, and Delilah Bowen Bushong.

View in about 1920 of the New Market Battlefield, from the site of Union positions. The Bushong home is downhill in the center.
